Just two weeks after French swimming sensation Léon Marchand extinguished
the Olympic flame in Paris, all eyes now turn to the Paralympic Games. On
Saturday, British Paralympians Helene Raynsford and Gregor Ewan ignited the
flame in Stoke Mandeville, the village near London that is celebrated as the
birthplace of the Paralympic Games.

Tony Estanguet, President of the
Paris 2024 organizing committee, expressed that just two weeks after concluding
the Olympics, the French capital is “proud and excited” to host the 17th
edition—France’s first ever.

“We are ready to make it a unique
and unforgettable experience for France and the entire world,” Estanguet added.
